Replace your water heater
Compared to electric water heaters, natural gas heaters are less expensive to operate but heat water faster. They're also more reliable because they'll continue to ensure you have hot water even when the electricity goes out. Check the EnergyGuide label for an estimate of the water heater's annual operating cost.

They're more durable too. The flame does all the work so there are fewer parts to fail or wear out. And, natural gas heaters come in a variety of sizes so you can select one to best meet your needs. Learn more about natural gas heaters.

Think tankless
Though tankless units may cost more than most conventional water heaters, they're cheaper to operate because energy isn't required to maintain a large tank of hot water 24 hours a day. A tankless water heater heats water only as it is used, or on demand. Rather than holding water in a tank like a conventional water heater, the tankless unit circulates water through a burner that heats the water as it passes through. The result is that you only pay to heat water when you need it and for as long as you want it.  Convert to a tankless water heater today.

Heat with gas
With natural gas heat, you'll enjoy a warmer feeling in your home. That's because natural gas furnaces deliver air to heat registers at about 110 degrees Fahrenheit, which is much warmer than body temperatures - something other heat sources can't match. When shopping for a natural gas heating system, look for models that are "Design Certified" by CSA America (CSA America, Inc. is a standards writing body in the United States for appliances and accessories fuelled by natural, liquefied petroleum and hydrogen gases) to ensure safety, reliability and efficiency.

You can learn about the energy efficiency of a heating system through the yellow-and-black EnergyGuide label it displays.

Boost your heating system
Compact and economical, gas space heaters are the perfect add-on to an existing heating system. They can warm one area at a time, as needed, making them especially good for hard-to-heat or seldom-used areas such as garages or basements. They're also perfect for mobile or manufactured homes.

For indoor installations, these units can be vented directly through an outside wall, thereby using outside air for combustion and increased efficiency. They have safety features like matchless pilot ignition. A gas space heater may be perfect for your home.

Gas up your clothes dryer
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, gas dryers are less expensive to operate than electric dryers. The cost of drying a typical load of laundry in an electric dryer is 30-40 cents compared to 15-20 cents in a gas dryer. Look at the yellow-and-black EnergyGuide label on these appliances for more information.

Natural gas models also offer other advantages. You may have fewer wrinkles in your clothes if you use a gas dryer because the lingering heat in an electric dryer can promote wrinkling even after the cycle is finished. Some models feature moisture sensor controls and a press saver mode, which keeps tumbling clothes without heat and reminding you not to forget the clean clothes. If you're short of space, you can still get a natural gas dryer since there are stackable washer-dryer combinations.

Go gas for cooking
With their precise temperature control, it's no wonder top chefs worldwide prefer the sophisticated features and outstanding performance of natural gas ranges, cooktops and wall ovens. With a gas flame there's no waiting for the burner to warm up or cool down. Unlike an electric range, the cooking stops as soon as you turn off the burner. Foods can cook faster and more evenly with natural gas. You can even cook when the electricity goes out, since you can light the cooktop burners with a match if needed.

Don’t forget to look for Energy Star qualified models!

Replace and add a new gas fireplace
With a natural gas fireplace, you'll never have to worry about harmful chimney fires or ashes and sparks. Natural gas logs and fireplace inserts provide fuel-efficient, fuss-free flames at the flick of a switch. Enjoy a cozy fire instantly, when you want it. Plus, there's no wood to buy, haul, or store, which means less hassle for you, without the mess.

Gas fireplaces also offer the benefits of both radiant and convective heat. Natural convection draws in, warms and returns room air, which circulates freely around corners and up stairwells. At the same time, radiant heat emanates from the fireplace's surfaces and gently warms objects in its path. Many gas fireplaces feature heat exchangers that boost heat output considerably. You can get all the warmth and charm of a glowing fire, even if the electricity goes out!  Learn more about PSNC's gas fireplaces

Light up with gas
Natural gas lights operate without electricity, so their comforting glow endures even during a power outage. With their soft glow, they offer security and add a warm welcome home in entryways and driveways, on patios and decks, and near pools and garden areas. Plus, the warm amber glow does not attract insects so you can get more enjoyment from your outdoor living spaces.

Some models have automatic dimmers, so they adjust to outdoor light levels. You get a gentle, barely there illumination during the day and a bright steady glow at night. Learn more about lighting with natural gas

With a natural gas grill, there is no propane tank to fill up or charcoal mess! Plus, natural gas grills offer many of the same advantages of cooking with natural gas in the kitchen. Natural gas flames provide an adjustable source of heat that can be fine-tuned with precision. Your food can have the rich, smoked flavor without the dirty mess and long warm-up time of charcoal grills. Outdoor grilling keeps kitchens cooler and keeps lingering, stale smells outdoors.
