PSNC Energy - Bathroom Remodeling Tips
Bathroom Remodeling Tips
Transform your bathroom into a personal spa of body-embracing warmth and luxury with natural gas and these tips and trends, courtesy of PSNC Energy.

Create a spa-like oasis
  • Enjoy the ultimate bathing experience with a tub that treats you to the ultimate home theater surround and entertainment system right in the luxury of your own whirlpool bath. With plenty of room for side-by-side bathing, you can nestle in for a long soak and the finest motion picture experience ever imagined. Thoughtful touches, such as a floating remote control and ten fully adjustable jets for the ultimate in head-to-toe relaxation.
  • Take bathing to new limits with an infinity-edge tub.
  • Introduce chromatherapy color washes into your bathing experience. Small streams of color can be shone through either standing or running water, where their hues diffuse with enhanced intensity. You can now buy bathtubs, shower systems and sinks with chromatherapy options.
  • Turn your shower into a retreat from life's daily stressors. Install a shower that delivers hydro-massage. Replace standard shower heads with oversized "rain" shower heads or include multiple body sprays. Or select a model that mimics the experience of a steam room at a health club or spa.
  • Install a mirror defogger and enjoy the luxury of stepping out of your warm shower in front of a perfectly clear mirror.
  • Be creative with your flooring and consider non-traditional materials like concrete. Anything goes as long as it resists moisture. Ensure your floor is toasty warm with an energy-efficient natural gas radiant heat floor. It provides heat from below your floor, keeping your tiles, feet and the rest of your room very warm.  Discover natural gas radient heat floors.
  • Create a homey feel with traditional-styled cabinetry, made to look like freestanding furniture with legs.
  • Make a splash with a built-in waterfall.

Energy Efficiency Tips
  • Pay for hot water only when you need it by installing a tankless hot water heater.
  • Whether you use a conventional or tankless water heater, make sure it's powered by natural gas. Check out the gas water heaters available from PSNC Energy
  • Install properly sized ENERGY STAR labeled ventilation fans to control moisture in the air while you shower or bathe. By removing moist air and drying out your bathroom, a ventilation fan helps prevent mold and mildew.
  • Install ENERGY STAR labeled lighting (e.g., Light Fixtures: suspended lights, ceiling-mounted lights, cabinet lights, recessed lights, or compact fluorescent bulbs).
  • The walls behind tubs or showers are often poorly insulated and air-sealed. Opening these walls as part of the remodeling project provides an opportunity to ensure comfort by sealing air leaks with caulk or expanding foam and installing insulation. Also make sure to air seal around plumbing and electrical penetrations.
  • If you are replacing windows, doors, and skylights, consider those with the ENERGY STAR label. They are more expensive, but will save energy over time and may help reduce condensation and thus be less prone to mold.
  • Make sure that windows can be opened to provide replacement air, and seal air leaks around them with caulk, weatherstripping or expanding foam.
