Gastonia, N.C., Oct 31, 2011 … PSNC Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of SCANA Corporation (NYSE: SCG), announced today that the North Carolina Utilities Commission has approved a decrease to the purchased gas component of the company’s retail natural gas rates, effective with November bills. The decrease will lower the company’s winter residential rate by five percent, taking it from approximately $1.00 per therm to approximately $0.95 per therm.
“Wholesale costs for natural gas are a little lower this fall compared to last year,” said PSNC Energy President and COO Rusty Harris. “We’re starting the 2011-2012 heating season with the lowest residential rate we’ve had in nearly 10 years.”
PSNC Energy’s adjustment translates to a decrease of nearly $5.00 per month - based on the average customer usage of 94 therms per month during the winter heating season.
PSNC Energy does not earn a profit on the “cost of gas” component of its natural gas rates. The adjustment is passed directly to customers in accordance with state regulations so that the company can recover its costs associated with purchasing the fuel.
