Gastonia, N.C., Dec 11, 2009 ... For the 27th year, PSNC Energy is sponsoring The Salvation Army Heat Care fund, which provides financial assistance to those who need help paying their heating bill. The natural gas utility has contributed $40,000 to the fund and has also earmarked an additional $20,000 to match donations from PSNC Energy customers and the general public.

“Each year we kick off the heating season with a contribution to help struggling families stay warm during the winter,” said Rusty Harris, President and COO of PSNC Energy. “Many of our customers support the fund year round by adding a small donation to their monthly bill payment.”

The Salvation Army Heat Care Fund was initiated by PSNC Energy as a partnership between the utility and The Salvation Army. Funds are distributed by local Salvation Army agencies to needy residents living in PSNC Energy’s service territory - regardless of the type of fuel used for heating. More than $1 million has been disbursed since the program began.

“Due to the economy, we expect the need for heating assistance to be greater than ever this season,” said Major Dalton Cunningham, Divisional Commander for The Salvation Army in North and South Carolina. “More and more families are asking for help, and The Heat Care Fund is a valuable resource for us.”

We appreciate the continuous support we receive from PSNC Energy and from their customers.”
