Dec. 15, 2005 - Gastonia, NC -- For 100 needy families in the PSNC Energy service territory, the holiday season was a little bit brighter this year, thanks to the generosity of PSNC Energy employees. For a second year, bags of food and toys were provided to local families just in time for Christmas as part of the annual Good Neighbor Fund Christmas Project.
Food baskets and toys were assembled and delivered by employees of PSNC Energy to 50 needy Triangle families on Wednesday, Dec. 7, and 50 needy Gastonia families on Thursday, Dec. 8.
“Throughout the year, the Good Neighbor Fund program reaches out to members of the community during their time of need,” said Julia Wright, PSNC Energy customer service manager and Good Neighbor Fund board member. “This Christmas project gives us another opportunity to serve our neighbors during the holiday season.
Each year, approximately 100 needy families and individuals in North Carolina benefit from the holiday basket drive; half of those are in the Triangle region and the other half are in the Gastonia region of the state.
The PSNC Energy Good Neighbor Fund provides financial assistance year-round to families in the company’s service territory who are in need of help with living expenses such as groceries, mortgage or rent payments, doctor bills or prescription medications. All 100% of employee donations to the Good Neighbor Fund program go directly to those in need, and referrals are made solely by company employees.
