Dec. 21, 2004 - Gastonia, N.C. - PSNC Energy is now providing natural gas service to more than 400,000 customers across its 28-county service territory. The company reached the milestone in November when natural gas was delivered to the new home of Rolesville resident Kelly Gray. “We’re so pleased to have the Gray family as our 400,000th customer,” said PSNC Energy President and Chief Operating Officer Jerry Richardson. “Natural gas service was expanded to the Rolesville community in 2003, and we expect to see more fine folks like the Grays coming onto our system from this part of Wake County.”
As a thank you for propelling PSNC Energy to a new customer record, the utility presented the Rolesville family with a natural gas grill, which will be installed by the company on the patio of the Gray’s home. The family also received a Food Lion gift certificate to help get them grilling. Founded as Public Service Company of North Carolina in 1937 by Gastonia businessman Charles B. Zeigler, PSNC Energy was initially a manufactured gas distributor for Raleigh, Durham, Gastonia and Asheville. When natural gas became available to North Carolina in the early 1950s, the company began converting its customer base to natural gas and started extending its service area. With the completion of the company’s western expansion project this past spring, PSNC Energy now offers natural gas service to all counties within its service territory.
“Our safe and reliable service plus the unbeatable warmth of natural gas continues to make a difference in attracting customers,” Richardson added.
PSNC Energy is a wholly owned subsidiary of SCANA Corp. (NYSE: SCG) and is franchised to serve a 28-county service area in North Carolina. The utility distributes natural gas to approximately 402,000 winter-peak customers in 96 cities and communities including the Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill areas in the north central part of the state; the Concord, Statesville, Gastonia and Forest City areas in the Piedmont; and the Asheville, Hendersonville, Brevard and Sylva areas in the western part of the state.
