About Gas-fired Desiccant Dehumidification Systems

Reducing moisture in the air makes spaces easier to cool. Desiccant dehumidification equipment can supplement conventional air conditioners by separating latent cooling load (moisture-related) from sensible cooling load (temperature-related). Conventional systems only control temperature. When air is cooled below the dew point, condensation occurs, resulting in higher cooling costs and a clammy environment.

Here’s how desiccant dehumidification equipment works: the system uses silica gel or titanium silicate to attract moisture from the air. As the air moves through the desiccant, the latent heat load is converted to warm, dry air. The air is then cooled to the desired temperature, and the absorbed moisture is released as a vapor into an exhaust flow.

Benefits:

  • Reduces cost of cooling
  • Improves occupant comfort
  • Increases overall cooling capacity of existing cooling equipment

Rate 127 - High Efficiency Small General Service

This discounted rate is available to a commercial customer who qualifies for service on Rate 125 and whose building meets the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification or equivalent. Upon receiving documentation that a building qualifies, PSNC Energy will assign the customer’s account to Rate Schedule 127.

For buildings that use equivalent means to qualify, a registered professional engineer’s statement must be provided that states that the building uses no more energy, on a per square foot basis, than a LEED certified building.
